A Haunted Masterpiece?
The innocents, a local play finally opened and introduced some local actors. And at the set of this show hangs a picture, the subject of countless strange stories and tales. The owner of the picture who prefers to remain anonymous has had the picture for many years. For some strange reason, the owner was said to have bought this portrait as she was speeding down the road and she stopped to buy it suddenly. Using oil as medium, the painting was of a Borzoi, a Russian wolfhound and it seemed like it was created around the late 1800's or perhaps sometime around the early 1900's. Someone who has been trained well when it comes to the Borzoi, he will certainly wonder why this picture, even with its immense beauty is odd since the painter only showed the dog's shoulders and head, and done in almost straight on pose. It is also easy to see that the shoulders and chest are not proportioned precisely.
This lady who bought the picture was very familiar with the breed, and knew exactly how a Borzoi should look like and this made things much weirder. When her husband arrived home that evening to find the picture hanging on the wall there was not the blow up of overspending the needed money for a portrait of a dog, instead there was the same strange attraction that she had felt. Amateurs and experts have all taken shots of this painting but it never came out the same, ever. There are times that the dog painting would look like it was three dimensional, while flat at some times, then most of the time it seems that the pictures were in color or black and white some strange lights would show but the creepiest would be the times when a spectral silhouette would be showing on the portrait's right area.
One time, husband and wife were discussing about whether there was an entity that came along with the picture they had of the Borzoi hound, but then the husband insisted that there was nothing weird about it and they simply imagined too much and it was just light reflections playing with their minds. Suddenly, a huge ceramic dish, which was initially hung on the wall fell with a crash on the floor without breaking into pieces.
After hearing so many tales about the mysterious Borzoi portrait, the director producer of the playhouse sought the couple owning it who gladly loaned it for him, to be a good background feature for his play, the Innocents, which revolved on supernatural subjects. They explained to him that they have never really found out who it is that moved into the house the day the portrait was purchased and maybe being used in a production such as the Innocents they might be able to find out.
